SANTA CLARA-Credit Suisse is marketing a 320,000-sf development in Santa Clara for Exodus Communications Inc. The Santa Clara-based company agreed to lease the space but due to recent downsizing, doesn’t need it anymore.

The development is in the Siemens Information and Communications Network, Inc.’s 35-acre campus. Exodus is currently operating from its 385,000-sf headquarters in Santa Clara.

Exodus’ space on the Siemens Campus totals 319,263 sf of office/R&D space consisting of three buildings on 22.23 acres of land. The land comprises of three separate parcels that have frontage on both Patrick Henry Drive and Democracy Way in the City and County of Santa Clara, California.

Built in approximately 1980, all three buildings are single-story with concrete tilt-up construction. The buildings are fully equipped with sprinklers and HVAC throughout. Walkways connect the three buildings and there are two tennis courts, a swimming pool, an outdoor volleyball court, and a complete gymnasium located on the campus.

An Exodus spokesman says that Exodus has the option to purchase the space and is weighing its options. Given the company’s recent layoffs, during which it reduced its staff by 15%, it doesn’t look like it will be interested in doubling its space.

The company signed for the new space at a time when the Internet economy was booming and customers were signing up in masses. When the economy dropped, so did the clients. The company’s stock is worth $0.34 per share at press time. At one time, it was trading for $64 per share.
