SACRAMENTO, CA-City redevelopment officials here are seeking the resumes of companies interested in transforming a vacant former Woolworth’s building in the Downtown area. The two-story, 50,000-sf building sits on a 17,000-sf corner parcel at 1000 K St.

A source within The Downtown Development Group, the agency handling the selection process, tells GlobeSt.com the city is looking to build a restaurant and entertainment center that includes a multi-screen theater. The goal of the project is to serve as a catalyst in revitalizing the downtown area.

A city-owned parking garage and the newly restored Historic Crest Movie Theater surrounds the property. DDG is encouraging proposals for plans that provide a synergy with these properties and other local structures, including Hard Rock Café and Westfield’s Shopping Town.

The site is zoned C-3, which will allow development of professional office, commercial and residential structures. DDG officials say that Sacramento is the perfect size, offering the best of urban amenities and opportunities with the charms and easy living of a small town. Its Metropolitan Area currently has a population of about 2 million people, a number that experts say will grow to 2,770,000 in the next 20 years.
