ATLANTIC CITY-The struggling Sands Casino/Hotel spent $2 million late last year to lease the adjacent Madison House Hotel, hoping that the deal would qualify as an expansion that would allow the Sands to increase its casino space in accordance with existing casino-space-to-rooms ratio. Yesterday, the Casino Control Commission agreed.

Under current regulations, the additional rooms brought to the Sands complex will permit the latter to add up to 10,000 sf of casino space. No timeline has been established for the casino expansion.

In the meantime, the Sands, Atlantic City’s third smallest casino/hotel property has already begun work on converting the 13-story Madison into 113 suites. The conversion project is slated to be completed by early next year.
