DETROIT-The Detroit Planning Commission recently held a public hearing on an industrial park project along I-94 in one of the city’s Renaissance Zones. The development is the I-94 Industrial Park, a 156-acre parcel in aRenaissance Zone located in the east central sector of the city.

The project is expected to bring six light industrial and manufacturing firms to thecity, along with added jobs and eventual tax revenues The city intends to sell the property to Ashley Capital, which plans an industrial park. The developer hopes to begin construction of a 750,000-sfwarehouse, distribution center before winter. The company says the park will be certified as a Michigan Certified Industrial Park, which requires that the businesses within in the park be compatible and that there is a landscaped buffer around the perimeter.

One business that intends to remain is Dynecol Industries, which has purchased additional properties in the zone.

The city planning and development department held the hearing to announce the rezoning of the area from residential/general commercial to industrial.

The revised city master plan calls for industrial zoning on the site.

Members of the Citizens District Council say all residents who are being relocated are satisfied.

The area south of the property is also a Renaissance Zone, and city officials hope that area will also attract park developers. The park rezoning was taken under advisement.
