SEATTLE-It’s no secret hotels are hurting after the recent terrorist attacks. But Seattle is trying to convince travelers to visit by slashing rates of luxury hotels, in some instances for half-price the regular rates.

Seattle Super Saver, an incentive program already in place the past 11 years to attract tourists in the area’s off-season, is kicking into gear a bit earlier this year and give the local tourism industry a much-needed boost.

Occupancy rates across the country are down, and companies are hoping to avoid layoffs and future cutbacks by luring customers.

The Seattle-King County Convention and Visitors Bureau program, which discounts rates up to 50 percent at everything from luxury hotels to budget inns, begins Oct. 1 and runs until April 14, 2002. Typically, the program starts around Thanksgiving. This year, 39 hotels are participating.

Super Saver reservations can be made by calling 206-461-5882 or 1-800-535-7071. More information is also available at www.seattlesupersaver.com.
