PORTLAND-The Federal Bureau of Investigation is analyzing liquid from a bomb that was left in front of a Multnomah County building at Southeast 11 Avenue and Division Street on Thursday. After six hours of precaution, explosive specialists separated the liquid container and detonated the rest of the device at around 1 p.m.

No one was hurt, but the bomb was not a hoax; it was designed to explode, say police and fire officials. An FBI spokesperson says the analysis could be quick or lengthy depending on whether the liquid is common or not.

The county uses the large building for storage and mail distribution. The bomb was reported shortly after 7 a.m. The businesses in the blocks immediately around the scene were vacated and nearly 50 police officers were mobilized to keep people out of a 50-block area surrounding the building. Hazardous materials and decontamination units were called in and numerous fire and rescue units were brought to the scene.
