DENVER-Buffalo, NY-based Ontario Specialty Contracting Inc. will start demolition of Currigan Hall Friday to allow the doubling of the size of the adjoining Colorado Convention Center. This will be the first visible sign of the expansion of the convention center.

Earlier, the city tried to find a developer willing to remove and rebuild Currigan Hall, where small meetings and groups once were held, but no company could make the numbers pencil out.

The first phase of the demolition will be dismantling the Currigan Hall walkway bridge.

Voters in 1999 approved a $268-million bond issue to expand the convention center.

The new addition will add about 1.4 million sf of new space, as well as a new 1,000-space parking garage and a 5,000-fixed seat lecture hall. A new 50,000-sf ballroom will be added to the lower level.
