SAN FRANCISCO-The Port Commission says a bill signed by Gov. Gray Davis will speed up planning and construction of a cruise ship terminal and office complex being developed at San Francisco’s Pier 30-32. In 1999, the commission began soliciting proposals for the redesigning of the piers, officially giving the San Francisco Cruise Terminal exclusive rights to negotiate for the development of the cruise terminal and rental space a year later.

The commission says San Francisco Assemblyman Kevin Shelley’s legislation, which has been signed by Davis, limits the amount of allowable office space to a maximum of 300,000 sf. It also allows for 25,000 sf of additional office space that would be turned over to a trust and establish a space for retail.

“We are very grateful to Gov. Davis for signing into law this legislation that allows our plans for San Francisco’s new passenger cruise terminal to stay on track,” says Port Commission Executive Director Douglas Wong.

In order to expedite construction, the Delancey Street Foundation, Pier 36′s current tenant, will have to relocate to a new location. The port says it will assist the foundation in doing so.
