NEW YORK CITY-A fire that broke out early this morning in a massive Queens furniture warehouse located along the East River has escalated into the city’s first major blaze since the World Trade Center bombings.

More than 200 city firefighters are battling the flames at the Gothic Cabinet Craft Queens Factory Showroom in Astoria. The warehouse, 27-50 1st St., is a four-story building that supplies the company’s 41 locations throughout the city, Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester. Fireboats and cherrypickers have been brought in to help contain the fire, which is visible from East Side Manhattan and the Queensboro Bridge.

A perimeter around the warehouse has been cleared to keep the fire from spreading to nearby apartment buildings, none of which are said to be in jeopardy. There are no reported injuries.
