MIAMI-Baypoint Office Tower Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 protection under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, seeking permission to reorganize operations and protect its assets from creditors.

The office development, leasing and management company has not yet filed a financial statement with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Miami. The court has tentatively scheduled a hearing for Oct. 30.

Incorporated in 1992, the company lists Raul Romera as its president. Neither Romera, who also serves as president of FMC Management Group Inc., nor his attorney, Michael S. Budwick, responded to a request from GlobeSt.com for comment.

Miami-Dade County property records show that Baypoint acquired 235,979 sf of class B office space on a 1.45-acre parcel at 4750 Biscayne Blvd. in 1992 for $3.8 million, or roughly $16 per sf, according to Miami-Dade County property records.

Major tenants in the Baypoint Office Tower include Miami-based International Shipping Partners Inc., a global passenger ship management company that employs more than 2,000 people.

Court records show that at least one individual has filed as a party to the Chapter 11 action. William T. Massey filed a motion within days of the bankruptcy filing seeking emergency relief, though it is uncertain exactly what type of relief he is seeking.

Efforts by GlobeSt.com to locate Massey for comment were unsuccessful, and his attorney, Raymond V. Miller, did not respond to a request for information.
