SEATTLE-The Seattle Planning Commission will discuss redevelopment prospects for the Rainier Beach neighborhood at its next meeting Oct. 25.

Questions the panel intends to pose include:

– What would it take to stimulate private investment and create a “critical mass” of retail/commercial activity in the Rainier Beach area?

– How can public facilities and properties contribute to creating a strong sense of community in Rainier Beach? Possible examples might include schools and open space.

– What are some strategies toward meeting the community’s revitalization goals?

The panel will be moderated by Commissioner Darryl Smith. Other panelist participants include: Sally Clark, SE Neighborhood Development Manager; Dawn Blanch and James Luster, neighborhood plan stewards; Kathy Johnson, Seattle School District; Lynn Sullivan, Seattle Parks Department; Miles Mayhew, DCLU; Earl Richardson, SEED; Bobbie James, Seattle Public Library.
