AUSTIN-In the biggest batch of earnings reports from Austin companies in a range of industries, there were few glimmers of hope for a turnaround and little need for more space.

In fact, one company, Concero Inc., said it would continue to spend $600,000 a quarter for office space it’s not using and hasn’t been able to sublease. The firm, which provides Internet-related consulting services, has 94 employees remaining from its 508-employee workforce in place at the third quarter 2000 end. The company’s headquarters are located at 6300 Bridgepoint Parkway Building 3, an 80,000-sf building, in the northwest submarket.

Executives at Active Power Inc., which makes power-related equipment, said the company began churning out goods from its new 157,000-sf manufacturing facility in the north submarket. It definitely has no plans for additional space.

Concero and Active Power lost money in the quarter ending Sept. 30 as did Luminex Corp., which develops equipment for biological testing. NetSolve Inc., which provides network management and security services, reported its 13th straight quarter of profitability though it was less than the year before.

NetSolve reported net income of $1 million, 8 cents per share, on revenue of $12.3 million for the quarter. In the quarter a year ago, it posted net income of $1.4 million, 9 cents per share, on revenue of $11.2 million.

Concero said it lost $5.9 million, 58 cents per share, on revenue of $3 million. That compares to a loss of $2.2 million, 22 cents per share, on revenue of $14.2 million in its 2000 third quarter.

Active Power reported a net loss of $7.3 million, 18 cents per share, on revenue of $6.2 million. In the 2000 third quarter, it lost $9.4 million, 35 cents a share, on revenue of $1.3 million.

Luminex lost $3.6 million, 13 cents per share, on revenue of $6.2 million. In the same quarter in 2000, it lost $4.4 million, 15 cents per share, on revenue of $4.4 million.
