DAVIS, CA-UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine broke ground on the Koret Comparative Genomics Laboratory this week.

The new state-of-the-art facility, which will integrate advanced biomedical training with humane animal research to work toward curing genetic disorders, was funded in part by a $1 million grant from San Francisco-based Koret Foundation.

The Koret Foundation, one of the largest Jewish-sponsored charitable trusts in the U.S., has provided more than $200 million in grants to support higher education.

UC Davis’ veterinary faculty helped develop the program for Israel’s first veterinary school, Hebrew University’s Koret School of Veterinary Medicine, in 1986. The Koret Foundation responded by establishing an endowment to support higher education between the two schools.

The multimillion dollar facility will be incorporated within the privately-funded Center for Companion Animal Health. Construction will begin early next year.
