DENVER-Golf pro turned developer Stacey Hart is turning the 35-year-old Los Verdes Golf Course into a 210-acre, $300-million luxury golf course community designed by Jack Nicklaus and his son, Jack Nicklaus II. The 7,415-yard course will include 207 homes, some priced at more than $1 million.

The project, renamed as Cherry Creek Country Club, will be a gated community.

Hart says it is the largest infill development in the Denver area outside of the former Stapleton International Airport and the Lowry Air Force Base.

In addition to having sold 72 of the lots — priced from $350,00 to $700,000 — Hart also sold 57 golf memberships, so far. He’s offering golf membership at $50,000, which will soon cost $65,000.

He says there’s a pent-up demand for such a private club, as one hasn’t been built in the Denver area for 15 to 20 years.

The project will include a 26,000-sf clubhouse that will include a formal dining room, mixed grille, ladies lounge, a board meeting room, wine cellar and golf cottages for members and guests.

There also will be an 8,000-sf spa and fitness center with a 25-meter swimming pool and tennis court.

The project sits 30 minutes from DIA, 20 minutes from downtown, 10 minutes from the Denver Tech Center and 10 minutes from the Cherry Creek shopping district.

In addition to Nicklaus Design, Hart’s team includes architect William Zmistowski Associates of Boulder, and TrueGreen Landscape of Denver. Guaranty Bank & Trust and California Bank & Trust are providing financing.
