AUSTIN-Hilton Hotels Corp. is opening a sales office for its under-construction hotel next to the Austin Convention Center. The 1,850-sf lease is in the Paggi Building at 503 Neches.

Brett Arabie of Colliers Oxford Commercial’s Austin office represented the building owner. Steve Galloway of Carpenter Real Estate brokered the deal for Hilton.

The 30-story Hilton Austin will have 800 rooms and 60,000 sf of meeting space. Austin officials expect the hotel, paired with the expanded convention center, to boost the city’s convention business by allowing large conventions to book large blocks of rooms right next door. The convention center work, which doubled its size, is to be completed in spring 2002. The hotel looks to open its doors in January 2004.

The two-story Paggi Building, built in the 1870s, carries a historic designation. It is owned by a photographer, who uses part of the building for a studio.
