TACOMA, WA-At its Nov. 6 meeting, the Tacoma City Council will take public testimony and vote on an agreement for up to $3.1 million with M.A. Mortenson and Company for building removal and site preparation for the Greater Tacoma Convention Center. If the Council approves the agreement, Mortenson will start this fall and complete the work by early 2002 when Convention Center construction is scheduled to begin.

In September, GlobeSt.com reported that city staffers were in the process of negotiating with Hollander investments to develop a 175-room hotel on the Greater Tacoma Convention Center site. The hotel would be located along Pacific Avenue and Commerce streets, between South 15th and South 17th streets. The new hotel could open as early as 2003.

Bellingham-based Hollander Investments owns and operates three hotels in Washington and one in California. Two of the Washington facilities are located in Puyallup. City staffers are expected to submit development agreements to the council for a formal and final decision by Dec. 4.
