PERRY, GA-In a Southeast consolidation move, Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. is closing its 371,591 sf plant 100 miles south of Downtown Atlanta and relocating to its Stuart, FL location. The company manufactures parts for commercial aircraft.

“Regrettably, the dramatic downturn in the commercial air transport industry impacts our operations,” Gordon Williams Vought’s president and CEO, says in a prepared statement. “The rapid decline in business has reached a point where it is no longer financially feasible for us to operate the Perry site.”

Williams expects the transfer should be complete by yearend 2002. Vought does not anticipate any work delays due to this consolidation.

Construction on the facility was completed in 1990. The plant is currently used to manufacture pressurized doors for Boeing 737, 747, 757 and 767 planes; floor beams for the 747; and spare and replacement parts.

Vought paid $65,000 in property taxes on the facility in 2000.
