ELIZABETH, NJ-The former Elizabeth General Medical Center at 925 East Jersey St. is being marketed by RE/MAX Commercial Real Estate’s New Jersey office. RE/MAX principals Ian Grusd, Richard Falkin and Herbert Horn have the assignment.

The property became surplus following completion of a merger last year between Elizabeth General and St. Elizabeth hospitals, forming Trinitas Hospital. The functions at 925 East Jersey St. were relocated to a former St. Elizabeth facility elsewhere in this Union County city.

The eight-story building’s previous use as a full-service hospital included a nursing school and executive offices, and it features a cafeteria, an auditorium, fiber optics, heavy power, emergency backup generators, 10 elevators and a variety of built-in systems. The property provides a variety of redevelopment options, according to Grusd.

“It’s one of the few alternatives in the market suited for many types of redevelopment,” according to Grusd. “It lends itself to division for multi-tenant uses, and it offers an investor or end user a good opportunity to buy a well-maintained building in a good location.”

With its location near Route 1 and 9 and the New Jersey Turnpike, as well as Newark International Airport. Horn expects demand to come from airport-related businesses, or possibly hotel operators or telecom firms. Conversion for offices, multifamily use or mixed uses are all considered possibilities.
