PHOENIX-Barnes & Noble is readying plans for a 30,000-sf location in inline space at Kierland Commons in northeast Phoenix. The signing is part of a third-phase push for the Main Street project, which is carrying a tentative fall 2002 opening.

Scott Johnson of Phoenix-based Corritore Co. tells GlobeSt.com that the popular book retailer has signed a 10-year lease with options. Kierland Commons is a joint venture of Woodbine Southwest Corp., a division of Dallas-based Woodbine Development Co., and Herberger Interests of Scottsdale and Phoenix. The project’s second phase encompasses six buildings boasting 70,000 sf of retail and 50,000 sf of office. It will be fully opened by year’s end.

At build-out, the 38-acre, Main Street project, positioned at the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Greenway Parkway, will contain 450,000 sf of specialty retail and office space. Nelsen Architects of Phoenix designed the lifestyle complex that first opened its doors in fall 1999. Oakview Palisade Corp. of Phoenix is the project’s general contractor and EDAW of San Francisco, the landscape architect. Corritore is the retail leasing agent; Lee & Associates of Phoenix office leasing; and Insignia/ESG’s Phoenix office, the property manager.
