BURNSVILLE, MN-A committee appointed by the Metropolitan Council will hold hearings on a controversial amphitheater project in Burnsville next week. The hearings, to be held at the Met Council’s St. Paul, MN offices Nov. 19 to Nov. 21, will focus on theissue of whether the proposed the proposed $10-million, 19,500-seat amphitheater here would create substantial noise pollution in nearby Bloomington.

Parties involved, which include the cities of Bloomington and Burnsville, the developer,Rose Wild LLC, and a group of citizens who submitted a petition for the review, will present their cases the first day. The hearing will be moved to the Oak Grove Middle School Auditorium in Bloomington, 1300 West 106th St., to receive testimony frominterested persons who are not parties in the matter. The Metropolitan Significance Review Committee will make recommendations to the full Metropolitan Council Committee sometime in mid-December. The Metropolitan Council has until Jan. 2 to make a final determination.

If the council determines the project poses issues of regional significance, the council could suspend the project for up to one year. The Metropolitan Council launched the review phase of the metropolitan significance review process after talks broke down Oct. 2, when members of the mediation group failed to reach consensus on how to mitigate potential impacts of the proposed amphitheater.
