ST. PAUL, MN-Progress is being made toward developing an indoor Farmers Market Downtown, according to recent reports to the city council. The $17.7-million Market Hall project in the Lowertown district would expand the current Farmers Market and add an indoor venue and underground parking for market patrons.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has committed $11 million toward the development, while private funding from the Friends of the Farmers Market is close to raising $2.5 million.

The project would add an all-year venue for produce shoppers and would create some additional “vibrancy” in Downtown St. Paul, according to city officials. The city is asked to contribute up to $4 million, and is expected to include that amount in its budget, whichit is expected to adopt next month.
