NEWCASTLE-The regional development agency, One NorthEast, has chosen AWG Developments as preferred bidder for the last remaining site in the Quayside district on the north bank of the River Tyne. AWG plans a £45 ($63 million) million mixed-use scheme designed by Carey Jones which will include 100,000 sf of offices; 60 apartments and 15,000 sf of restaurants.

The developer aims to submit a detailed planning application before Christmas. Completion of the project is expected to be in mid 2004.

One NorthEast Board Member Sue Wilson said: ‘his mixed-use development is the final piece in the East Quayside jigsaw and completes the revival of this area of Newcastle’s riverside. The attractive high quality scheme will complement the existing buildings that have developed along the Newcastle Quayside in recent years, making it one of the most striking riverside locations to live and work.’
