MILFORD TOWNSHIP, MI-Township officials have agreed to settle with developers Paul Robertson Jr. and Joel Garrett regarding a 677-acre, $300-million multifamily project. The two wanted zoning approval for a plan to bring about 760 new single-family homes and multifamily condominium buildings on a former gravel pit.

The developers presented a plan that would place multifamily buildings on 100 of the acres, and single-family homes on the rest. Now, the township has agreed to allow 600 new homes and condominiums on the site.

The two developers were denied a request to rezone the 677 acres east of Milford Road, between Maple Road and Pontiac Trail, from single-family to multifamily last year. Since then, Robertson filed a lawsuit in Oakland County Circuit Court claiming the township’s three-acre-per-house zoning on the property takes away his rights to develop the land. The three acre lots would have only allowed about 200 homes.

The developers also threatened annexation to neighboring Wixom. The developers have agreed to not seek annexation. Wixom officials had indicated an interest in acquiring the property.
