WALTHAM, MA-Citing a need to consolidate court sessions that are currently handled by satellite sessions, the state is studying a plan that would turn the seven-acre site of the former Gaebler School on Trapelo Road in Waltham into a new court complex. The proposed facility would house the Probate and Family Courts as well as a District, Juvenile and Superior Court buildings.

The state is reportedly considering plans that would range in size from one 150,000-sf building to a 250,000-sf complex. Residents and local officials are concerned that the new court complex would generate more traffic than Trapelo Road can handle. Calls to Mark Prufer of the design firm of Stull & Lee, traffic consultants to local officials, were not answered by press time.
