ATLANTA-Gov. Roy Barnes Friday will christen the first American plant built by Suzuki Motor Corp. of Japan, a 35-acre, 108,350-sf, $30 million property in Rome, GA, 60 miles northwest of Downtown Atlanta.

The manufacturing facility is creating up to 150 local jobs as Suzuki promises to purchase 50% of production parts from local suppliers. The plant will produce Suzuki ATVs for dealers/customers in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The plant’s May 31 opening on Technology Parkway is considered one of the top economic/commercial achievements this year in the metro Atlanta market, area commercial real estate brokers tell GlobeSt.com.

They anticipate a new commercial submarket of office, industrial, retail and residential development within a 10-mile to 25-mile radius of the plant.
