MINNEAPOLIS-The Minneapolis Foundation says it plans to move its headquarters from the Foshay Tower to another Downtown icon, the IDS Center, signing a 12-year lease for 20,000 sf. The Foundation’s offices will be on the eighth floor of the IDS Tower, says Corey Whitbeck, a leasing manager with RREEF Minnesota, who represented the IDS Center and manages the building.

The move will be made in April 2003.

“The growth of our programs and our client base has created a need for more contiguous space and that option was not available to us in our current location,” says Emmett Carson, Minneapolis Foundation president and CEO.

The foundation hired the Minneapolis real estate advisory firm of Nelson, Tietz & Hoye, to assist in the search for a new Downtown location and reviewed offers from many other properties before selecting the IDS Center. Russ Nelson, president of Nelson, Tietz &Hoye, managed the year-long search for a new location.

Carlson says the foundation chose the IDS Center over other Downtown properties because it’s at “the crossroads of Downtown,” and will provide easier access and improved efficiency.

Walsh Bishop, a Minneapolis-based development and consulting firm, will provide design and consulting services to the foundation for the relocation.

The Minneapolis Foundation is a center for philanthropy with more than $550 million in assets.
