DETROIT-Site Selection magazine has listed the Michigan Economic Development Corp. as one of the top 10 economic development agencies in the US. The MEDC is the only development group in the Midwest that was cited.

The magazine pointed to the corporation’s designation of 11 SmartZones, brownfield redevelopment tax credits and Pfizer’s major expansion in Ann Arbor for its inclusion on the list.

In addition, MEDC helped secure $12.8 billion in investments and 31,136 jobs for Michigan, according to the corporation.

Criteria for the honor included the amount of capital investment in an area in 2001, new jobs created and the capital investment per capita.

The public-private agency provides tax credits and job training assistance to companies looking to expand or move into Michigan.
