LA JOLLA, CA-San Diego city officials have approved a plan to build a139-unit condominium project on the west side of La Jolla Boulevard.

The 14-building project in the Bird Rock area will be built on a 4.2-acre site at 5390, 5440, 5460 and 5474 La Jolla Blvd now occupied by commercial buildings, residences and a vacant restaurant.

The vote by the San Diego City Council approving the project was 8-1, with Councilwoman Donna Frye in opposition. She opposed the project because it does not have an affordable housing component.

The least-expensive studio unit in the complex will be priced at $250,000.
