REDMOND, WA-At last night’s City Council meeting, members of the council listened to several options for financing a $31 million proposal to build a new City Hall and expanded parking garage.

The Redmond City Hall was built in 1971 and remodeled in 1984. However, the city experienced a technology boom in the 1990′s, which significantly increased the town’s population and city staff. Many staff members are spread throughout the city.

According to city officials, Redmond decided to create a master plan for a new City Hall two years ago. Since then, the project has been up in the air, as officials assessed possible financing solutions for the multimillion-dollar project. A Seattle developer provided the city with its master plan, estimating that the project would cost about $26 million for a 93,525-sf building and $5.4 million for a parking garage.

The city could buy the City Hall with a high down payment, which would give it a better interest rate. It could also build the City Hall with no down payment, which would be the less expensive financing option. Ultimately, the city council stated that it would need more time to decide whether or not to move ahead on the project.
