MUKILTEO, WA-The City of Mukilteo has a five-year plan to demolish the existing Rosehill Community Center and build a new 15,000-sf city hall and 28,000-sf community center on the four-acre former elementary school property.

The proposed city hall and new community center are estimated to cost about $5 million and $6 million, respectively. If approved, the buildings would be complete by 2004.

The city wants to build the city hall first and then build the community center when the funding becomes available. Some of its residents, meanwhile, argue that the city should build the community center first or keep the existing one, as residents are reluctant to go for an undetermined period of time without a community center.

A survey aimed at finding out what services would be conducted at the community center is what sparked complaints about developing city hall first. City officials have said they will send out a second survey in an attempt to address concerns about the first survey being flawed.
