LONDON-Miller Birch has emerged as the purchaser of the 38-acre BAe Systems site on the edge of Nottingham city centre. It has planning consent for an 895,000-sf scheme which could create up to 5,000 jobs.

Miller Birch intends to develop 755,000 sf of offices and a 54,000-sf health and fitness centre on 31 acres of the site. A further seven acres will be developed with an 86,000-sf Homebase store. Homebase will be relocating from its store at nearby Castle Meadow, which Miller Homes will then redevelop for residential use.

Located on Queen’s Drive, the main link road between the city centre and junction 24 of the M1, the site will incorporate the proposed second phase of the Nottingham Express Transit system. Miller Birch Managing Director Neil Hartley, said: “We intend to create a new generation of business campus which fully incorporates the latest in modern office technology with the benefits of a true edge of city centre location.”

Construction of the first phase will begin before the end of 2002. Capital Business is advising Miller Birch while Atis Real Weatheralls represented BAe Systems.
