DETROIT-State officials have announced development projects that are receiving some form of government assistance. Foremost is the Plastech manufacturing plant, which is investing $37 million in a new plant in Romulus, MI.

The project will create 400 new jobs, said officials with the Michigan Economic Development Corp. The public-private corporation typically offers tax credits and other incentives to encourage development.

Also, Comprehensive Toxicology Services is investing $8.2 million in two new facilities in Kalamazoo County, creating 191 life science jobs.

Attica Hydraulics is investing $7.5 million into a new facility in Chesterfield Township in Macomb County, creating 150 new jobs, state officials says.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has announced that the former Traverse City State Hospital property on West 11th Street will be torn down and cleaned of soil contamination. The property will be redeveloped into a mixed-use commercial and residential development, with housing and office space. The state has recommended approval of a $1 million grant to help clean up the property. Public comment ends Sept. 9.
