Lakeshore Athletic Breaks Ground On $25M Club

BROOMFIELD, CO-Lakeshore Athletic Club of Chicago has broken ground on its newest health club–a $25 million, 150,000-sf club along the Northwest Corridor. The Lakeshore Club-Flatiron will be the second largest in the chain and likely the largest health club in Colorado.

“As an international leader in developing and operating private athletic clubs customized to the unique lifestyle needs of communities, we’re excited to add Colorado to our family of clubs in California, Illinois, Indiana and Great Britain,” says Robert Johnson, chief executive officer of Lakeshore Athletic Club.

Flatiron will include a 10,000-sf area devoted to children’s fitness and lifestyle needs called Kidshore. Kidshore will include separate family locker rooms, monitored facilities, a kid’s gym, children’s lounge with computers and a childcare center for infants and toddlers.

Adult activities include swimming, cardiovascular programs and weight training, rock-climbing, tennis on rooftop courts, basketball, volleyball, Pilates, spinning and yoga.It also will include the Waves Day Spa, a restaurant and on-site concierge.

It’s scheduled to open in October 2003.Lakeshore Athletic Club is managed by Lakeshore Management Group. It was founded in 1972 in Chicago by brothers Jordon and Walter Kaiser.

Lakeshore owns and operates four Lakeshore Athletic Clubs in Chicago, the Spa and Fitness Club in Costa Mesa, CA, and the Pinnacle Athletic Club in Mishawaka, IN. New clubs will be opening in Evanston, IL, and in London, where it will operate the largest lifestyle club in the United Kingdom, the Reebok Sports Club.
