DETROIT-Construction is down in almost every market across Michigan, according to areport by McGraw-Hill Construction Information Group of New York. For mid-year 2002, commercial, residential and public construction funding in Michigan was down by more than 10% from mid-year 2001, according to the Dodge Analytics unit of the company.

Commercial building took the hardest hit, down to $298 million in July 2002 from $528 million in July 2001. Total construction was down by more than $400 million for the same time period.

For the year-to-date figures, commercial building is down $1 billion, or 28%, from last year’s January-July figures. Residential building is up $38 million, or 1%, for the same time period.

The company produces reports on the construction market, including Dodge Reports and Sweet’s Catalog Files.
