AUBURN HILLS, MI-Industrial developers are asking city officials for permission to build a few new buildings in the booming area. The city is the epicenter of new light industrial development, mostly consisting of automotive supplier firms.

The Dana Corp. has asked the city for permission to build a 98,000-sf light industrial building on property just east of N. Atlantic Boulevard, between Brown and Harmon roads. The city’s planning commission has recommended approval, provided the new building and landscaping blends in with the surrounding area.

Also, developer Bruce Brickman has submitted a site plan application to allow construction of a road and 150,102-sf light industrial building at the northwest corner of Joslyn and Collier roads, where a 25-acre industrial park is proposed. The commission has recommended approval of this project as well.

Brickman has told the city that a 45,000-sf building and 50,000-sf building are proposed for Phase II and Phase III, respectively, of the new industrial park. He said it will cost more than $10 million to build these facilities.

Brickman has asked for financial assistance from the city’s Brownfield Redevelopment Authority for the project. Toxic chemicals and gases were found by state officials on the property.

The city council will now vote on the recommendations.
