LONDON-The Immigration & Nationality Department has added to its extensive holdings in Croydon, south London, with the acquisition of 42,564 sf in Canterbury House, Sydenham Road. A rent of £13.25 ($20.50) per sf was agreed for the refurbished offices. IND has taken a lease until December 2011 with a tenant’s only option to break in December 2007.

The acquisition means the IND has expanded by 160,000 sf already this year to cope with the surge in applications from asylum seekers.

Lambert Smith Hampton acted for the Home Office, and the landlord, Menaldi, wasrepresented by Smith Melzack Pepper Angliss.
