SAN DIEGO, CA-San Diego County’s unemployment level has begun to decline, after rising for two consecutive months this summer, according to research recently released by the State of California Employment Development Department.

The September report shows that the unemployment rate here dropped slightly to 4.1% in August, after increasing from 3.8% in May to 4.2% in June and 4.4% in July. The August labor force consisted of 1,475,900 people, the report says, adding that 1,415,800 workers were employed and 60,100 people were out of work.

Despite a decline in unemployment here, San Diego’s rank in the state slipped one to number nine in the state, which means that eight other regions in California have a lower unemployment rate than San Diego County. However, the county has once again reported a lower level of unemployment than the statewide average. The state’s overall unemployment rate is 6.2%, which is nearly two percentage points higher than San Diego County’s unemployment rate for August.
