BOSTON-The city’s zoning commission voted to approve the rezoning of the 8-acre Chestnut Hill Waterworks site for development but a local activist group says it is considering appealing the decision.

The difference between the city’s vision for the site and the Waterworks Community Task Force, a local group, is about 40,000 sf. Roger Blood, co-chair of the task force tells GlobeSt.com that the city is looking to build between 140 to 150 units on the site while his group wants to see between 80 to 100 units. “They disregarded everything we presented,” Blood says.

The task force also wants to see heights remain at 55 feet while the city’s decision would allow buildings to go up to 75 feet or seven stories. Most of the development will occur on one acre of the site. The rest of the site houses two historic buildings or will remain as open space.

The city’s decision will become final in 30 days if no action is taken but Blood says that he is “anticipating that we would appeal” the decision.
