DENVER-During the past 15 years, Mark Meiser has built about $1 billion in retail, office and residential properties as development directors for companies such as TrizecHahn, Koll Development and Bill Denton, developer of the $114-million Denver Pavilions retail center Downtown. Now, as principal of Meiz Development Co. LLC, Meiser is developing his first project for his own account.

The $3.95-million, 13-unit project at 2501 Grove St. in northwest Denver is the equivalent of what he would spend in a little more than a week at projects such as the $200-million Park Meadows mall that was developed by TrizecHahn in Douglas County.

Meiser, an architect by education, tells GlobeSt.com he wants to go out on his own. And he’s especially thrilled with his first building, which has a rich history.

The site served as the first St. Dominick’s Church in Denver, which was built in the 1880s. In the early 1920s, the church moved several blocks to the north, where it stands today.

The top of the original church was knocked off in the 1940s, stood vacant for years, before it was converted into four cheap apartments. The tenants currently are on a month-to-month rent.

Units will be priced from $210,000 to $366,000.

Spectrum General Contractors is the builder and the architect is Simple Brown Design.
