DETROIT-A casino gaming marketing group says a recent deal with an American Indian tribe has angered some Michigan officials. Governor John Engler has settled a Chippewa County land dispute with the Bay Mills Tribe by agreeing to allow a new casino in Port Huron, according to the firm of Fraser, Trebilcock, Davis and Dunlap of Detroit.

The settlement agreement allows the tribe to build in Port Huron, and build two more casinos within the Tribe’s Chippewa County reservation.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick expressed disappointment over the deal and vows to contact the federal legislature to fight it, the marketing group says. The US Congress must now approve the settlement.

The settlement will also end plans the Tribe had for a casino in Vanderbilt, just north of Gaylord, in the northern area of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, the marketing group claims.
