AUSTIN-Trammell Crow Co. wants to move an exit ramp from Interstate 35 in north Austin and is willing to pay about $760,000 to get it moved. The Austin City Council is to vote today on a resolution to negotiate and execute an agreement that would put the plan in motion.

The exit is between Parmer and Howard lanes, a fast-growing retail area. H-E-B grocery, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Wal-Mart and Kohl’s are either open or have plans to build between Parmer and Howard.

Trammell Crow officials declined to comment on the matter, but city and state officials said such agreements have been done before. A TxDOT contact tells GlobeSt.com that moving the exit is in the department’s long-range plans, but it hasn’t had the money for the project. “It fits in with our proposals, our long-range plan for redevelopment of the interstate between Georgetown and Buda,” the contact says.

The change would move the southbound exit between Howard and Parmer lanes north of its current location. That would give motorists the opportunity to turn into more retail centers on the frontage road. If the city council gives its approval, the city would contract with the Texas Department of Transportation to do the planning, design and construction.
