SEATTLE-KremeWorks Washington is close to the necessary approvals for a 4,300-sf Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store near the intersection of Aurora Avenue North and North 125th Street.

The City of Seattle this week announced preliminary design, environmental and conditional use approvals for the project, which will front a Lowe’s Home Improvement store and also include a 2,542-sf Jack-in-the-Box restaurant and 68 surface parking spaces.

Krispy Kreme began its Northwest onslaught in Issaquah last fall and the location has been a huge success, according to Tim Jewett of the Everett-based Dykeman Architects, which is bulldogging the permit process for the KremeWorks. He spoke with GlobeSt.com in July.

Jewett told GlobeSt.com that site selection has been a combination of what’s available, what can be negotiated and demographics. The Aurora location will “embrace the car culture,” he said.

If no appeals are received by the middle of the month regarding the preliminary approvals, the city will issue a Master Use Permit by the end of the month.

KremeWorks also has signed a lease for a proposed building at First Avenue South and South Holgate Street in Seattle’s Sodo district. That particular location will include a company headquarters and roughly 5,000 additional sf, according to Jewett.
