LONDON-The City of Westminster has given planning permission for Kier Property to redevelop the old Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheies and Food at 3/8a Whitehall Place, London SW1 with 90,000 sf of new office space. The new building will become the home fore the discredited government department’s replacement, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Defra has taken a 25-year lease on the space while Kier Property has agreed to take a long lease from the Crown Estate–the freeholder of the building–to carry out the redevelopment. Construction will start on site within a month and completion of the scheme is expected in 2004. The existing building will be completely redeveloped behind the retained grade II-listed 1950s façade.

Kier Property is advised by DTZ Debenham Tie Leung. Defra is advised by Atis Real Weatheralls.
