PHOENIX-Five Bank One offices will be consolidated into one 400,000-sf facility in November 2003 with the completion of a $35-million, state-of-the art Bank One Regional Processing Center.

The new center, currently being built by Summit Builders at 1820 E. Sky Harbor Circle South in central Phoenix, will house the operations functions for Bank One in Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. The center also will provide retail lockbox functions for the entire nation.

“This will be a huge milestone for us,” Mary Jane Rogers, vice president of regional media relations for Bank One, tells GlobeSt.com. “This will be the right decision for a long time to come.”

Rogers said the new facility will house 1,200 employees relocated from five other facilities around the Valley with room for up to 1,000 more. The building also will include $35 million in technology upgrades that will centralize and streamline the bank’s operations to allow it to better process more than eight million items every day, she said.

The new processing center will replace the bank’s operations center located at 3620 N. Black Canyon in Phoenix. That facility opened in 1961 with 125 employees to process 133,000 items per day.

“Combining all operations into one ‘super’ site improves our ability to serve customers and creates a wonderful working environment for our employees,” said Kristine Garrett, president and CEO of Bank One in Arizona. “Not only will our new facility provide a more integrated work environment for our processing functions, it positions us better to leverage new technology quickly and efficiently.”

Rogers said the banking institution chose the site, which will be leased back from the city, because of its central location and commitment to Phoenix. The new facility was designed by DHMJMH+ N architects.
