RENTON, WA-Classmates Online Inc. has signed a deal for 61,000 sf of office space for its new headquarters at Southgate Office Plaza II. The move more than doubles its current space.

Owned, leased and managed by Equity Office Properties Trust, Southgate Office Plaza consists of one, three-story, and one, five-story class A office buildings totaling roughly 268,000 sf. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but annual triple-net asking rates for the space were roughly $14 per sf.

“As one of the region’s fastest growing private companies, Classmates has experienced tremendous growth in revenue, membership and staff over the last several years,” says Teresa Kotwis, Classmates vice president of finance and administration. “After evaluating several locations for company headquarters, we chose to remain in Renton because of the area’s business-friendly environment and its proximity to our employees’ homes. Our new location enables Classmates to remain a vital part of the local community and offers the opportunity for continued expansion.”

Classmates formerly occupied 28,000 square feet between two buildings at the Blackriver campus in Renton. Classmates Online manages a website that serves as an online community, connecting over 32 million members with friends, family, military and work colleagues. Founded in 1995, Classmates has one of the largest member bases on the Web for paid content. The company adds 50,000 members per day and is consistently ranked as one of the top 15 most highly trafficked Web properties by Nielsen//Net Ratings.

“Partnering with Equity Office allows Classmates to more than double its office space in Renton while consolidating its headquarters into one building,” says Patrick Callahan, Equity Office’s senior vice president for the Seattle Region.
