DENVER-Last year, the area hotel market had its worst year in about a decade, as did most markets across the US, as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the slowing economy. Now, with 11 months of data under its belt, the hotel market still hasn’t recovered.

Through November, the average occupancy rate in the metro area was 61.6%, compared with 64.2% in the same period in 2001, according to the Rocky Mountain Lodging Report.

The report, by Robert S. Benton & Associates, also shows the average room rate through November was $84.76, compared with $87.03 a year earlier. The month of November showed the same trend.

The average occupancy rate in November was 50.8%, compared with 51.1% in 2001. And the average room rate in November was $80.40, compared with $85.47 last November.
