FRAMINGHAM, MA-The town of Wayland has filed an appeal in the state’s Superior Court challenging Framingham Planning Board’s issuing of a special permit for the development of a 665-unit project planned for a 130-acre parcel near Old Connecticut Path.

A small portion of the parcel is in Wayland but none of the construction will take place there. Jeff Ritter, Wayland’s executive secretary, tells GlobeSt.com that the parcel involved is under the jurisdiction of Wayland’s conservation commission and he emphasizes that the project, called The Villages at Danforth Farm, would impact his town in other ways.

He declined to specify the grounds of the appeal on the advice of counsel. According to local published reports, Wayland has concerns about the impact the project would have on conservation land, traffic, public safety and groundwater.

The multifamily building, being built by Newton, MA-based National Development Associates, is planned for the site of the former New England Sand & Gravel. As Ritter points out, the project cannot move forward until a decision is reached on the appeal.
