JMI Realty Tops Out Omni San Diego

SAN DIEGO-Executives from JMI Realty, Omni Hotels and Swinerton Builders have all gathered together today for a topping-out ceremony for the new Omni San Diego Hotel underway in downtown.

The celebration marks a major step forward for the hotel and condominium project, which suffered from a series of setbacks during the past few years. But JMI officials overcame the obstacles, which included losing Westin Hotels & Resorts as an operator and dealing with significant delays in construction due to several lawsuits against the adjacent ballpark project, now known as Petco Park.

With the development back on track, JMI Realty executives say the 32-story hotel will be completed in time for Petco Park’s opening day in April 2004. At build-out, the Omni will feature 512 guest rooms, as well as 36 luxury penthouse condominiums on its top 11 floors. The project will be connected to the ballpark through a pedestrian bridge attaching the two developments.
