SAN DIEGO-A new member has recently joined the Qualcomm Stadium Advisory Board, as San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy has appointed William Jeffery III to the position.

A resident of downtown San Diego, Jeffery currently is president/CEO of Wall Street Associates. He has also served as a board member for the La Jolla Shores Planning Association and the San Diego Community Foundation.

As member of the Qualcomm Stadium Advisory Board, Jeffery will assist with recommendations that the group makes to the mayor and city council on stadium-related matters. Other responsibilities will include conducting public meetings about stadium operations and issues, as well as serving as a liaison between the public; Qualcommm Stadium tenants; contractors; and the city, which owns and operates the stadium.

Constructed for $27.75 million in 1967, the original stadium held 53,000 seats and was known as San Diego Stadium. In 1984, a $9.1-million expansion took place resulting in the addition of 8,000 seats and 50 suites, as well as a name change to San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. The most recent renovation occurred in 1997 at a cost of $78 million. That project brought the total seating capacity up to 71,500 and the number of suites up to 113. In addition, club-level seating was added with four lounges, upgraded food service, two new video screens and a practice facility for the San Diego Chargers.
