LONDON- Cathedral Group is about to start construction of its £43 ($70 million) mixed-use redevelopment of the Millwall Fire station at Byng Street in Docklands. As well as a replacement fire station the scheme will provide 174 new flats; retail units and a community centre for the Isle of Dogs.

75 % of the 174 new luxury apartments–designed by HLM Design–will be offered to the market for private sale and the remainder as affordable housing. Completion of the Fire Station is anticipated for the end of 2004 with the flats going on sale by Spring 2004.

The Docklands area has been in need of a new fir station since the former docks were transformed in the 1980s and 1990s with over 12 million sf of office development on Canary Wharf and adjoining sites.
